"What We've Got Here Is..."

"...a failure to communicate?"

As a follow-up to the last post, in which "communication" was identified as an area that needed improvement, I'd like to talk now about some of the new things we're trying next year to open up a better two-way communication between ABC and its groups.

1) ABC Group Mixers
During the month of September, we plan to hold a series of ABC mixers on the weekends as opportunities for similar groups to meet one another and to get to know their ABC reps. Hopefully, this will encourage groups to connect and collaborate on events throughout the year. Each mixer (we will have about six of them) will be targeted to a specific type of group (e.g. pre-professional, performance, cultural, etc.), but would be open to anyone who wants to come.

2) New Website
We will be unveiling a new website in September. The most important change will be the creation of a database system to which group treasurers could log-in to check their account balances. We will continue trying to make the website as useful a resource as possible for our clubs (more on this later, as details are worked out).

3) Revamped Fact Files/Treasurer's Guide
My personal project for the summer. I'm looking to make it more readable, more useful, and more comprehensive.

4) Blog
In the words of one commenter: "why, and how on earth will [this blog] change the way ABC is run?" By itself, this blog won't be revolutionary--and it wasn't intended to be. We hope this blog will offer more transparency on our end, but we also hope that people will take advantage of this to ask questions and to learn more about issues that may affect them.

5) Possible Fall Semester-End Town Hall
This would be more faithful to the idea of a "town hall" meeting than our Annual General Meeting tends to be; we think it would be beneficial for both ABC and groups to share thoughts at the mid-year point in hopes that problems could be addressed for the spring semester.

Perhaps most importantly, however, we will be placing a lot more emphasis on strong rep-club relationships in the coming year (the constitutional amendment you voted on at the AGM was just a first step).

Anything else in particular that you'd like to see? Let us know.
